What monthly website care actually covers (and what happens without it)

4 min readWolfpackFront Designs

The most common sentence we hear from owners is some version of “the site was done a few years ago.” Done, in the sense of finished — paid for, launched, and not touched since. The uncomfortable truth is that a website is never done. It is either maintained or it is decaying, and the decay is quiet enough that most owners find out from a customer.

How a finished website quietly falls apart

Nothing dramatic has to happen. The web simply moves, and an untouched site stands still:

  • Certificates and domains expire. A missed renewal email is the difference between a working site and a browser warning telling customers to leave.
  • Platforms and plugins ship updates. Skip them long enough and something breaks — or worse, a known vulnerability sits unpatched on a site that takes customer information.
  • Forms fail silently. A contact form that stopped delivering does not announce itself; it just stops producing leads, and the site looks quieter every month.
  • Performance drifts. Pages accumulate weight, hosting ages, and the site slips slowly on the measurements search engines care about.
  • Content goes stale. Old hours, old prices, a service you no longer offer — each one a small tax on trust.

None of these are anyone’s fault. They are what happens when a living system has no one on duty.

What Watchtower covers

Watchtower is our answer to that: someone on duty. Every plan covers the fundamentals —

  • Hosting and uptime monitoring, so an outage is caught by us, not a customer.
  • A security watch and software updates, applied before they become a problem.
  • Monthly content edits — ask, and it gets changed.
  • A monthly report in plain English: what we watched, what we did, and what it cost. No dashboard you need a translator for.

Plans run $99, $249, and $499–$799 a month, scaled by how much active work your site needs — not by how much we can bundle in.

The report is the point

Most maintenance plans fail on accountability, not effort: money goes out monthly and nothing visibly comes back, so the plan gets cut — and the decay resumes. The written monthly report exists to close that loop. You should never have to wonder what you paid for; you should be able to read it in two minutes, in your own language.

When $99 is enough — and when it isn’t

Honestly: for a stable site that changes rarely, the $99 plan is enough. It keeps the site hosted, monitored, patched, and current, and that is what most small-business sites need. The higher tiers are for sites that change often — new pages, campaigns, seasonal offers — or that carry more traffic and more to protect.

And sometimes care is not the fix at all. If the site itself is the problem — slow, dated, invisible to search — maintenance preserves the problem. That calls for a rebuild first, then care to keep it good.

Month to month, on purpose

Watchtower has no annual contract and no exit process. Cancel by email; the site keeps working after you go, because you own it. We structured it that way deliberately — a care plan should be held together by the work, not the paperwork.
