How to read your 100-point website score

4 min readWolfpackFront Designs

The free Watchtower assessment scores a website out of 100 points. This is the guide to what the number actually means: what the categories measure, how we gather the information, and — most usefully — the order in which to fix what the report finds.

Ten categories, ten points each

The score is not one opinion — it is ten small ones, each worth ten points:

  • Performance — how fast the page actually loads, measured the way Google measures it.
  • Security and trust — encryption, and the signals that tell a visitor the site is safe.
  • Mobile experience — whether the site genuinely works on the device most visitors use.
  • SEO fundamentals — titles, descriptions, and structure search engines can read.
  • Local search presence — the signals that decide whether nearby customers find you.
  • Content quality — whether the pages answer the questions customers arrive with.
  • Conversion and lead capture — how easy it is to call, book, or ask for a quote.
  • Accessibility — whether the site works for visitors with disabilities, as it should.
  • Technical foundation — the quality and currency of what the site is built on.
  • Care signals — the visible symptoms of a site being maintained, or not.

Ten categories means the score tells you where the problem is, not just that one exists. A 61 with strong content but failing performance is a different job than a 61 the other way around.

How we look at your site

The assessment is passive and opt-in: a single ordinary page fetch of your public site — the same request any visitor’s browser makes. Never active scanning, never probing, never logins. We work that way for two reasons. First, respect: we do not poke at infrastructure we were not invited into. Second, accuracy: what we score is exactly what your customers and the search engines see, which is the view that matters.

Triage: fix in this order

A report with a dozen findings can paralyze. Don’t work top to bottom — work by consequence:

  • Security and mobile failures first. A security warning turns visitors away at the door, and a site that fails on phones fails for most of your traffic. These compound daily.
  • Conversion gaps second. If the site loads fine but a visitor cannot easily call you or request a quote, every other strength is wasted. These are usually the cheapest fixes with the largest effect.
  • Cosmetics last. Dated design costs you less than a broken form does. Fix the machine before repainting it.

A punch list, not a verdict

A low score says nothing about your business — plenty of excellent companies sit behind neglected websites. It is a punch list: a finite set of named problems, each fixable.

Which route fixes them depends on what the report shows. Structural problems — a site that is slow, dated, or invisible to search at its foundations — call for a rebuild, quoted fixed between $1,500 and $4,500 before any work starts. Problems of neglect — expired signals, stale content, unmonitored forms — are what a Watchtower care plan exists to prevent, from $99 a month. Many sites need a little of both: one repair, then a standing watch.

And if the report says your current setup is genuinely fine, it will say so. The assessment is free either way — an honest read costs us little and tells you a lot.
